Palm Springs was long renowned as the playground for the rich, famous and glamorous for many years.  A veritable litany of Hollywood celebrities, from Frank Sinatra to Bob Hope, Liberace to Elizabeth Taylor, and the Gabor sisters, Steve McQueen, and countless others, all resided or stayed for a time in this desert oasis. By day, they frolicked in the sunshine and hit the golf courses.  By night, they sipped cocktails and danced late into the night.

Modernism Week taps into the inimitable spirit and allure of the golden era of Hollywood to bring modernistas the most glamorous red carpet opening night event to date.  The special evening kicks off another event-packed season for Modernism Week, which will host over 250 events over the following ten days.

CAMP, Modernism Week’s main public pavilion, will host the Opening Night Party. The beautiful 1958 J.W. Robinson Department Store in downtown Palm Springs serves as a dramatic backdrop for this elegant and retro-inspired soiree.  As with most Modernism Week After Dark events, guests are encouraged to don their most fabulous period attire. Bar keeps will serve up handcrafted martinis and other suitably midcentury libations provided by Hendrick’s Gin, while local darling eatery Lulu‘s will dish out midcentury inspired hors d’oeuvres and small bites. NUTTY, a martini mix of rock jazz mashups, will regal guests with live music and keep them dancing all night, playing standards that recall a time when the Rat Pack held court at the Chi Chi.

The martinis will flow.  The band will play long into the night.  And it will be a night to be remembered.  For those longing for a glimpse at the glamour of the Golden Hollywood era, tickets are still available.  Chin-chin!
